The National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons (NAPTIP) yesterday dragged a 64-year – old grandmother, her 27- year – old son and her son-in-law before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos over their role in the rape of a 14-year old girl. The 27-year old son, Uchechukwu Nwambie, who reside at 5th Avenue, E1 close, Block 6, flat 7, FESTAC Town, Lagos, was alleged to have raped the 14-year old girl (name withheld), of Umuezikwe Amuzi Ikenezizi, Obowo, Imo state, while the girl was in his mother’s custody on or about the month of September, 2010 to August 2012. The grandmother, Beatrice Nwambie was charged for encouraging the seduction of the girl by her son. The son-in-law who reside at First Avenue, Plot 1124, opposite Sixth Avenue, FESTAC town, Lagos, was alleged to have deceitfully induced the girl from Imo State to Lagos. They were dragged before the court by the Attorney of General of the federation on behalf of NAPTIP. The prosecution stated that the three accused offence, was contrary to section 19 (b) of the Trafficking in Persons. (Prohibition) Law, Enforcement and Administration Act (2003), as amended and punishable under the same section.
