Super Eagles marksman and winner Budweiser Man of the Match award has revealed that scoring the goal that has helped Nigeria break the jinx of not winning a World Cup game since 1998 in France has given him a special feeling.
The Stoke of England player who was criticized by his coach, Stephen Keshi for coming in as a substitute and not playing according to instructions given him salvaged Nigeria against hard fighting Bosnia-Herzegovinia to give Nigeria a win that has helped to move the Eagles closer to booking a Round of 16 place should they pick a draw against Argentina.
Speaking after the encounter in which he was voted as the best man on the field of play on the night, he said he will forever cherish the World Cup goal.
He also hailed his teammates and particularly attributed the win to team work, concentration and character of the team.
“The goal means a lot to me. But the win was down to 90 minutes of concentration and effort from my team-mates. The most important thing today was the character. We even enjoyed defending together.”
He debunked insinuations that the players are not patriotic or trying to sabotage the efforts of authorities. “I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love this country.
Playing for my fatherland is an honour and a pleasure. What better way to come back than playing in a World Cup. Being back with my fiends made me happy. I didn’t expect to come back and score a winner in such an important game, but I’m very happy. But this was a point the team earned. Right now I’m so high on our team’s performance.” He expressed.
