1. They’re natural caretakers
And I don’t mean that in a bad way. Nurses take care of people on a daily basis, it’s our job. If you get injured or get sick, you best believe that we would know what to do. We’re reliable in that sense.
2. .. and are compassionate
We are truly and genuinely concerned about you. I like to think that compassion is that “little extra” that makes us shine. We bend over backwards for the people we care about and give our 101%. It’s all or nothing. There is no halfway when it comes to this.
3. Keep calm and carry on
Nurses know how to think rationally during a crisis, and it’s infectious. It doesn’t specifically pertain to medical emergencies. If you were to ever panic about something, we can help calm you down with our super calming nurse powers and help you through the problem at hand.
4. Three letters: C. P. R.
We know how to do it.
And if you need me to explain why this would be a good reason, you probably live under a rock.
5. Nurses are good listeners
There are times when you just need to let it all out; you get frustrated with your boss, you’re stressed out because of school, or had a recent fight with your sibling – we get it. You’re only human and we understand how sometimes all you need is for someone to listen, that words don’t do any good. We know when to back off and share your pain in loving silence.
6. U Before I
I guess this one is more of a double-edged sword. Yes, we put the needs of others before ourselves. The people we care for/about come first. We’re people of the selfless kind, it is who we are. Which is admirable, yet sad at the same time.
7. Smart
Let’s face it, nursing school is hell. It’s not a walk in the park. You need the brains to pass, and even more so if you want to pass with flying rainbow unicorn colors. Understanding medical terminologies is not easy — you’re basically speaking in gibberish. Learning the signs and symptoms of different diseases will make your head spin 360 degrees, I guarantee you. Memorizing all the parts of the body will take time. Don’t even get me started about trying to remember all of them once you actually start working. We’re like wounded soldiers after a battle when we finish nursing school.
And then they tell you that you basically use NOTHING of what you learned in the real world… HA HA HA! Oh, how I wish I was kidding.
A nurse needs to think on his/her feet. Easier said than done.
8. One tough cookie
Nurses are tough; we need to be. We can take care of ourselves. The medical field is a harsh world to be in. Your supervisor chews you up then spits you out, the doctor wants this and that done, patient A is not happy, the family members complain about something you have no control over, patient B needs this, patient C needs that, you remember how much charting you need to do… after your shift is done, you probably want to cry, think about quitting, but you don’t.
Nurses get up the next day, smile, and freakin’ take on that shift like the bosses that we are.
9. $$$
Nurses make good money, usually better than most. It’s a good plus, especially if you’re thinking about settling down.
10. It’s the little things.
We know how to appreciate them. I cannot emphasize enough how a simple “thank you” can make our day. Or prepare our coffee the way we like it. Did I ever tell you how much we LOVE caffeine? It’s our best friend. Our partner in crime. Grand gestures are good and all, but it’s the little things that get to us.
So there it is, 10 good reasons why dating a nurse would be a good thing. It’s just the tip of the iceberg, really, because the list can go on. Nurses are nothing short of amazing. It takes a lot of courage to go down this path and I’m proud to say that I’m one of them.
