The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Taraba said on Saturday it had distributed about 80 per cent of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to registered voters in the state.

Alhaji Ahmad Makama, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, made this known in Jalingo while speaking on the commission’s preparation for the forthcoming polls.

Makama said the remaining 20 per cent were already available at the various ward headquarters for collections.
He explained that the commission had decided to decentralise the PVC distributions to ensure that all registered voters had easy access to their cards.
“INEC is trying to ensure that registered voters exercise their franchise; our aim is to get the cards across to all registered voters and in Taraba, we have given out 80 per cent.
“The remaining 20 per cent are ready at the various ward headquarters, ready for collection”.
Makama urged registered voters who were yet to collect their PVCs to do so as the commission would not allow the use of temporary voter cards in the forthcoming elections.
According to him, the introduction of card readers by INEC will go a long way in reducing rigging and other electoral malpractices.
The REC also said INEC was making arrangements to ensure that internally displaced persons (IDPs) participate in the elections. (NAN)
