Following the airing of a video which showed 2 police officers beating up a black male suspect, protesters have demanded that the erring officers be fired.

The video shows an officer punching the suspect, 57-year old Floyd Dent many times in the head as he is held to the ground.

Dent had been arrested after he ran a stop sign in Inkster in January and told reporters:

"I'm lucky to be living. I think they was trying to kill me, especially when they had choked me. I mean, I was on my last breath. I kept telling the officer, 'Please, I can't breathe"

Dent who is an employee of Ford Motor Company, said he spent 2 days in hospital for injuries to his face and head.

Police initially charged him with assault, resisting arrest - saying that Dent struggled and bit them when he left his vehicle, possession of cocaine, insisting they found cocaine beneath the passenger seat of his Cadillac but Dent says police planted the drugs at the time of his arrest.

The video however appears to refute the account of him struggling with arrest, while the assault and resisting arrest charges were later dropped.

Dent has no prior criminal history.

Inkster Police Chief Vicki Yost said the Michigan State Police were investigating and that the officers had been sent on leave.
