Bayern Munich will be without midfielder David Alaba for seven weeks, the Bundesliga club said on Wednesday.

The versatile player suffered a knee ligament injury in Austria’s friendly draw with Bosnia Herzegovina on Tuesday. An examination on Alaba by Bayern club doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt confirmed torn ligaments in Alaba’s left knee, which means he will miss the run-in to the Bundesliga.

“David Alaba has suffered a medial collateral ligament tear in his left knee,’’ Bayern tweeted. “He will be 14 days in a cast and then back in around seven weeks.’’

The predicted recovery time means Alaba could feature in the German Cup final on May 30 and the UEFA Champions League final on June 6, should Bayern make it that far. “I’m devastated, but I have one big target: to be back for the season finale,’’ Alaba said.

He has already missed part of this season due to a right knee injury earlier in the campaign.

Bayern Munich, which lead the Bundesliga by 10 points from Wolfsburg, are already without winger Arjen Robben for Saturday’s trip to Borussia Dortmund though Franck Ribery may recover to play.
