Another fresh heinous attack by gunmen believed to be Fulani militia yesterday happened in Governor Gabriel Suswam’s village, killing no fewer than 30 persons.
The heavily armed insurgents killed scores of the agrarian people including men, women and children. The attack happened in Kurungu, Tse Vir, Abur and Ageraga communities of Gaamber Tyev in Logo local government area of the state.
The dastardly attack is coming few days after Governor Suswam was defeated in the senate race of the Benue North East senatorial zone of the state. They militia also set ablaze houses and destroyed other valuable properties, just as they killed three brothers of a former Makurdi LGA Acting chairman, Mr. Isaac Ageraga.
DOROVIBES report that scores of farmers are displaced and have fled to Ugba town, the headquarters of Logo and to Zaki-Biam in Ukum LGAs. The displaced persons are without food and shelter.
Eye witnesses said the assailants came to the villages with dangerous arms and ammunition including sophisticated guns and charms.
Eighteen corpses have so far been recovered in Kurungu and Abur communities. The special assistant to the governor on media and publicity, Mr. Joseph Anawa who is an indigene of the affected community said the attack occurred at about 5am.
He stated that the militia attacked the communities and quickly retreat. The police public relations officer, ASP Ezeani Ameachi confirmed the attack and said “several houses were burnt and corpses have also been recovered.
The police and Army have quickly taken charge of the affected areas to maintain peace.”
