President Goodluck Jonathan has condemned the bomb blasts in Jos, Plateau State, describing the perpetrators as cruel and evil.
Addressing State House correspondents on the incident, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, extended the Presidents heartfelt sympathies to the affected families and persons and assured all Nigerians that Government remains fully committed to winning the war against terror.
Giving assurances that his administration would not be cowed by the atrocities of enemies of human progress and civilization, the President also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the implementation of the resolutions reached by the recent summit in France, pledging that every measure will be taken to find the Chibok girls.
At least 46 persons were reportedly killed in the two explosions, believed to have been caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
The first blast went off at about 3:10pm on Tuesday, May 20, around the busy Jos Main Market, between railway terminus while the second erupted 15 minutes later at the temporary site of the Jos University Teaching Hospital.
The President has directed all relevant agencies to mobilise support and relief efforts in aid of the victims.
A similar attack had been carried out at a drinking spot in Sabongari area of Kano, Northern Nigeria on Sunday – less than 48 hours earlier – which according to the Police, claimed 4 lives.
The blasts come as the Nigerian authorities continue the search for more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in April 2014.
