The Kaduna State Environmental Protection Agency (KEPA) says the ban on the operations of commercial motorcyclists in the state had reduced gaseous emission in the atmosphere by 30 per cent. The General Manager, Alhaji Sani Aminu, stated this on Monday in Kaduna in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Aminu said the ban which took effect last Tuesday had also reduced noise pollution levels by 20 per cent. “We have served notice on some users of heavy machineries to reduce their sound limits to permissible levels to further reduce noise pollution in the state. “Those using grinding machines, generators and studio operators, should adopt the recommended sound limits as we would not hesitate to prosecute offenders,’’ he said. He warned poultry farmers not to operate within residential areas due to emissions from the birds. “Poultry waste releases gaseous emissions that can threaten the health of people living around where poultries are located,’’ he said. Aminu said the agency would plant 500 tree seedlings in flood-prone areas in bid to make the environment conducive for human habitation. (NAN)
