The BringBackOurGirls Group has taken its campaign to yet another part of Abuja. Amidst tight security, the group was at the Asokoro junction yesterday, in continuance of its campaign for the safe return of the Chibok schoolgirls abducted by the Boko Haram sect on April 14 this year. The group, which carried placards bearing inscriptions such as ‘Our Chibok girls are crying for help’, ‘What if the Chibok girls were your daughters?’ and ‘Where is our humanity, our love and our conscience? If you keep quiet, it might be your turn’, took advantage of the traffic at the junction to distribute fliers and pamphlets to motorists and passersby. The street protest was organised to remind Nigerians that the girls have now been in the hands of their abductors for 126 days and of what they must be going through. Apart from the distribution of fliers and pamphlets, the group appealed for greater public empathy using a public address system. “It happened to the Chibok girls, it might happen to us too. Let no man say that it won’t happen to him or her, because it might. The girls have stayed for 126 days with their abductors and nothing has been done to bring them back. As you do a lot of things with your daughters, remember that the Chibok girls have been denied that privilege. The parents of the Chibok girls are being denied this right too and they cry endlessly for their daughters. “Terrorist attack to one is terrorist attack to all. Injustice to one is injustice to all. No one should keep quiet about this terror. We need to be united against the terrorists and come out and make demands for the Chibok girls and their safe return,” it said. The group also added that it would not relent in its campaign until the girls were brought back alive.
