Five people have been killed with several others abducted in another attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen on a community in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
Crime Watch Today gathered that the attackers laid a siege on Jootar community in Ukemberagya/ Twarev council ward between last Saturday and yesterday. They shot sporadically and set ablaze buildings and farm produce.
Some of the fleeing residents who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the invaders have also surrounded other neighbouring communities and may attack them soon.
Special Assistant to Governor Gabriel Suswam on Media, Chief Joseph Anawah, lamented that even though security operatives were stationed in the area, the attacks have persisted.
Anawah, who revealed that the incessant attacks have displaced many farmers in the council area, called on the Federal Government to intervene.
The state police command’s spokesman, Amaechi Ezeani, an Assistant Superintendent, who confirmed the incident, however, said there was no record of deaths in the latest attack.
While commending the peace efforts of the state government in constituting a joint task force, Ezeani urged the Tivs and Fulani stakeholders in the area to embrace peace.
