Stakeholders in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau on Friday warned the electorate against wild jubilation and provocative actions after release of results of Saturday’s polls.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the warning is contained in a communique issued after a security meeting involving various stakeholders in Mwaghavul Chiefdom in the area.
The communique, signed by the council Secretary, Mr Jerry Satmak and President of Mwaghavul Youth Movement, Mr Mathew Kwarpo, decried the “callous and provocative jubilation” that greeted the results of March 28 general elections in the area.
“As stakeholders, we condemn in totality, the wild jubilation and provocations that occasionned the victory recorded in the just concluded Presidential and NASS elections, precisely on March 31 and April 1.
“We hope that all (members of the) electorate, especially politicians, should exercise high sense of decorum before, during and after Saturday’s Governorship and Houses of Assembly elections.”
Consequently, political parties in the area were directed to identify a platform or location for their members to celebrate the victory, rather than using the federal high way, to avoid nuisance to road users.
According to the communique, “security agents are ever ready to deal decisively with any person or group that attempts to bridge the peace of the people”.
It called on the citizens to report any unusual or suspicious gathering, items and activities to security agents for prompt action.
The stakeholders, who attended the meeting, included the Police, Special Task Force, SSS, representatives of all political parties, NURTW and vigilante groups.
